Why is it that we do what we do when we know what we know?
We live in a world where there is more information and more education on health than ever before, yet public health is in crisis. A touch ironic I think.
One thing I know about myself is that I light up when I’m talking to people about health, especially when it comes to the topic of families, as it’s the next generation which matters most. What good are we as parents if we can’t lead our children to become great adults? I could talk for hours on the importance of health, of how it not only impacts ourselves but all the people we love in the world, not to mention the Mother Earth herself!
The Mothers I see week in week out can often be bone tired, sick or simply overwhelmed after having a baby, the lack of support and wisdom available to them is a niche sector, where it should simply be mainstream. It’s something I’m on a mission to change!
So I can get a little frustrated at times when I see so many people struggling with their health. I feel a little helpless or desperate at times, only if I had created an online course for them to do, or written a book, or studied that nutrition degree so that I’m “qualified” to offer more services, it burdens me I can’t do more then I’m doing. I can help people exercise, as that’s what I do, but that’s just a small piece of the puzzle for so many, I guess I wish I could help everybody, but I can’t.
People are complex, and therefore, so are their health challenges. That’s why when it comes down to your health it makes total sense to take a ‘holistic’ view, having knowledge on a broad amount of topics can provide a better method to solving a problem or avoiding many.
So, what I do, is either upgrade my skills and gain more knowledge so I can offer more, or I pick out other health professionals who I know can offer what I can’t for my clients at their time in need.
I choose to collaborate with Women’s Health Physio’s, Chiropractors, Naturopaths, Nutritionists, General Practitioners, Doulas, Food suppliers, you name it, if it will benefit people’s health who are happy to take my advice or referral, I’m in!
I also choose to collaborate with a group of Mum focused fitness businesses, just like mine.
That’s me, in the picture, the only bloke with a bunch of ladies! A thorn between 10 roses, hah! This is the Body Beyond Baby Affiliate team, and we all run very similar businesses around Australia and New Zealand, with a common cause. That is, “to raise the standards of the way Mums are looked after across the Fitness Industry. Alone we can do so little, but together we can do so much.”
It’s this approach, in my humble opinion, that all health practitioners and fitness professionals need to carry, an integrated approach, a collaborative approach to solving the world’s health problems, particularly when it’s the health of our young Mothers of the world we’re talking about.
